In order to sustain our development, we are continuously seeking top-class professionals capable of working as Patent Attorneys / IP Monitoring & Search Specialists / IP Formalities Officers.

P&TS offers a dynamic, young and multicultural environment with a communication-oriented company culture.

We are based in Neuchâtel, an attractive university city in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, within one hour from Geneva airport and two hours from the main skiing resorts in the Alps. Our offices are close to the lake and to the Old Town of Neuchâtel.

We are currently looking for an

European Patent Attorney or currently preparing the qualification examination

JOB DESCRIPTION

The position is available immediately (September 2008) and is based in Neuchâtel (Switzerland).

The functions include:

- independently managing a varied client portfolio

- processing invention disclosures

- performing patentability analyses in collaboration with our patent search specialists

- performing freedom-to-operate searches

- counseling clients as regards protection and filing strategy

- drafting patent applications - preparing design deposits

- defending patent and design applications vis-à-vis the relevant authorities

- managing applications wordwide through a network of correspondents; developing this associate network

- handling opposition procedures as representative of the defendant or of the opposing party

- providing advice and assistance in connection with patent litigation and contentious matters; enforcing patent and design rights

- drafting licensing, non-disclosure, development and other agreements

- performing due diligence analyses and audits in intellectual property matters

- other tasks entrusted by the clients

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Our ideal candidate has completed a technical education as electrical or mechanical engineer, in micro-technology or telecommunications. He or she has also accumulated several years' experience in patents, has preferably followed the CEIPI courses and has successfully passed the EPO European Patent Attorney qualification exams or is currently preparing to sit these exams.

The candidate is of French or English mother tongue and is perfectly capable of expressing himself or herself and of drafting patent applications in the other language. Added proficiency in German would be a considerable advantage.

With an analytical mind and excellent general knowledge in the field of science and technology, the candidate is capable of grasping quickly the technical and commercial aspects of inventions in new fields. He or she is familiar with the commercial fabric of western Switzerland and in particular of the Jura region, and preferably already has well-established connections. He or she is capable of working simultaneously on several projects and of organizing the workload and time efficiently despite often severe time constraints that must be observed strictly. A strong sense of initiative and organization allow him or her to improve the efficiency of processes within the company. Integrity, honesty and loyalty are naturally above suspicion.

The candidate preferably seeks a long-term relationship with P&TS. After an introductory period, the candidate should be able to work independently; capable of remaining isolated and concentrated when called upon to solve complex problems or draft patent applications or other long texts, he or she nevertheless enjoys contact with colleagues and inventors. We imagine a candidate of an age between 35 and 45, intelligent, ambitious, hard-working and sociable.
