In line with its ecological policy, P&TS subscribes to an electricity supply from renewable sources in our region, the canton of Neuchâtel. Each year, we receive a certificate which attests to our contribution, see below. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) has recently published a 113-page report "Innovationsförderung im Energiebereich für Firmen und Forschungsinstitute (available in German), ("Offers to encourage innovation in the energy field aimed at Swiss companies and research institutes"). Numerous organisations offer financial support, services and consulting for innovative projects in the energy field. This website provides guidance concerning support opportunities for such projects for Swiss enterprises and research institutes. The SFOE website and this report contain a summary and details of the main offers. P&TS' Fund for Ethical Innovation is mentioned in the SFOE report (page 109). We do exciting work at P&TS. Every day we meet inventors who are developing new products that will shape the world of tomorrow. We believe that we are lucky to be able to play our part in this process.We take care of the impact of these innovations, and we give encouragement to the inventions which are the most positive for the future by means of a fund for ethical innovation. Since 2010, P&TS has been supporting innovation projects in the field of renewable energy, greentech and ethical innovation. Each year, the equivalent of CHF 20,000 worth of intellectual property advice is offered free of charge by P&TS' patent and trademark attorneys to support innovations that contribute into making our environment greener, cleaner and better. One of the latest projects involves the clay-coloured photovoltaic roof tiles developed by the company Freesuns in Colombier. You know the problem: the roofs of our houses offer a huge but under-exploited surface for the use of solar energy. The use of traditional photovoltaic panels is not very suitable for old buildings and is often incompatible with town planning regulations. François Bauer is a mechanical engineer specialising in chemical and process engineering. He held various positions, including product manager and R&D director, at 4M, a manufacturer of optical disc production lines, during a period of strong growth and IPO. The manufacturing similarities between optical disks and photovoltaic cells led him to specialise in the field of energy, a favourite area of interest since his studies. Our congratulations go to Bertrand Piccard, André Borschberg and all the Solar Impulse team for the successful round-the-world flight in a solar aircraft, an amazing human and technological feat. The prowess achieved by Solar Impulse is so far in advance of its time that we probably cannot measure its importance today. We believe that the Solar Impulse flight will go down in the annals of the history of technology as the first step towards electric aviation that is energy-efficient. As a specialized partner, P&TS has followed this project very closely and is all the more pleased with its successful outcome which contributes to the promotion of renewable energies and therefore is in line with P&TS’s aim to promote these technologies, in particular through our fund for aid to ethical innovation.
