Court of First Instance of the Confederation in terms of patents, the Federal Patent Court tries civil patent disputes.\u00a0It decides\u00a0on validity and counterfeit matters, among others.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Patent Court comprises two ordinary judges as well as 40 deputy judges of a technical or legal background.\u00a0 They are elected for a period of\u00a0six years by the Federal Assembly and\u00a0have proven skills in patent law, while\u00a0ensuring\u00a0a fair representation in the technical fields and of the official languages. Cases are handled by commissions of three, five or seven judges, amongst which there are always\u00a0judges of\u00a0 a legal\u00a0background and judges of a technical background.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At this election, the Federal Assembly renewed the Federal Patent Court in its entirety\u00a0and appointed five new members.\u00a0 It moreover reelected\u00a0Christophe Saam and Giovanni Gervasio as judges of a technical background by 196 votes out of a total of 207 valid ballots.\u00a0 The confirmation of two judges from\u00a0P&amp;TS at the Federal Patent Court\u00a0attests to the high level of expertise of the firm in terms of patent litigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 27th September 2017, the (Swiss) Federal Assembly renewed the judges at the Federal Patent Court.
