Italy constitutes the fourth largest market in Europe. The Italian patent is an economical alternative to the European patent when there are a limited number of countries to be protected in Europe. Moreover, the Italian utility model represents a valid alternative for “small inventions”, giving the advantage of lower costs as well as patentability criteria that are not as strict as the rest of Europe.
