A new edition of the Swiss Venture Capital Report was published at the end of January 2019, as a paper magazine and online at https://www.startupticker.ch/en/swiss-venture-capital-report. The report is supported by P&TS and presents the investments made into Swiss startups last year. It also made media headlines, as for the first time more than CHF 1 billion was invested in Swiss start-ups in 2018 – to be precise, CHF 1.236 billion. “Switzerland is no longer a risk capital desert,” said NZZ’s headline.
Some interesting facts: the ICT sector has the highest share (55%) of volume invested in Switzerland, while fintech is growing fast (it is already the leading sector in UK).
Growth concerns all stages of investments, but in particular seed (+333%) and early (+62%), with also several notable later rounds: (+15%). As in previous years, Zurich and Lausanne have the lions’ share, while Zug, Basel and Geneva also made it to the top positions.
