Nata nel 1980 in provincia di Lodi (Italia).
Maria Maina è laureata presso l’Università di Pavia, facoltà d’ingegneria elettronica, dove è stata tutrice di elettronica e elettromagnetismo (fisica II). Ha seguito l’orientamento optoelettronico per passare poi alle telecomunicazioni e alla microelettronica. Nel 2004 ha ricevuto un premio come migliore studente della facoltà di ingegneria per l’anno accademico 2003-2004.
Nel 2005 ha lavorato nel gruppo micro-onde del dipartimento R&D di Alcatel Italia (sviluppo di ricetrasmettitori per collegamenti radio). In seguito ha seguito un corso in edizione e comunicazione a Roma ed è stata per tre anni redattrice scientifica presso De Agostini Scuola (libri scolastici di matematica, statistica, informatica, ecc.).
Ha quindi seguito suo marito in Svizzera e ha raggiunto P&TS nell’ottobre 2009 in qualità di agente in brevetti.
Dal 2013 è mandatario europeo, dal 2016 è mandatario svizzero (consulente in brevetti) et dal 2017 è mandatario italiano (consultente in brevetti).
Dal 2014 è tutrice per dei corsi sul diritto europeo dei brevetti organizzati in Svizzera dall’Università di Strasburgo (corsi epi-CEIPI).
Maria ama anche dare corsi di formazione della PI a diversi livelli, per esempio dei corsi di introduzione ai diversi titoli di protezione della proprietà intellettuale (per esempio per un pubblico che vuole familiarizzarsi con il linguaggio della PI), oppure dei corsi più mirati per un pubblico speciale (per esempio delle start-up) oppure per delle tematiche particolari o per domini di competenza (orologeria, elettronica, ecc.).
Maria è membro dell’associazione professionale AROPI (Association Romande de Propriété Intellectuelle).
Maria dedica il suo tempo libero principalmente alla sua famiglia (ha 4 bambini), ai suoi amici e alla cucina italiana.

Maria Maina has a master’s degree in electronic engineering from the University of Pavia, where she was appointed tutor of electronics and electromagnetism. Initially she studied optoelectronics and then telecommunications and microelectronics. In 2004 she received the best engineering student award from the University of Pavia.
In 2005 she worked in the Alcatel Italy R&D group (design of transceivers for microwave radio link). After that she studied publishing and communications in Rome and for three years she was technical writer for De Agostini Scuola (books of algebra, statistics, computer science etc.).
After following her husband to Switzerland, she joined P&TS in October 2009 as a patent engineer.
She qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2013, as a Swiss Patent Attorney in 2016 and as an Italian Patent Attorney in 2017.
For several years, she was a tutor on courses on European patent law organised in Switzerland by the University of Strasbourg (epi-CEIPI course).
Since 2022, she has been involved in the ‘Ethics and Legal Aspects’ course at HEIG-VD for the part concerning intellectual property.
She also likes to provide IP training courses at different levels, such as introductory courses to the various titles of protection of intellectual property (e.g. for an audience that wants to learn the fundamentals of IP), or more targeted courses for a specific public (e.g. start-ups) or for more specialized issues or technical areas (watches, electronics, etc.).
She is also IP special coach for Innosuisse since November 2018.
She is a member of the professional association AROPI (Association Romande de Propriété Intellectuelle).
In 2023, the publication IP Stars recognised Maria Maina as an IP raising star in Switzerland.
Maria spends most of her free time with her family (she has four children) and her friends and cooking Italian dishes.
